Transition to Adulthood

The Hope Institute for Children and Families is licensed for children ages 3 to 21 years of age.  However, when a youth at Hope becomes 18 years old, provisions should be in place for the transition to adulthood, and living in an adult facility if necessary.

In order to make this transition as smooth as possible, Hope has prepared a checklist for you to take with you when researching options for your child.  Please feel free to download and print the list to guide you when selecting the next step for your child’s continued care.  If you would like more information on this process please contact the main Hope number at (217) 585-5437.

Please note that your parental rights remain unchanged if your child is admitted to The Hope Institute.  You will remain the guardian of your child until s/he becomes 18 years old.  To remain the guardian of your after s/he is 18 years old, you must go to court to be designated your child’s adult guardian.  We will assist you as much as possible with this process when your child approaches the age of 18.
